In 2012, pianist Adam Laloum, violinist Mi‑Sa Yang, and cellist Victor Julien‑Laferrière transformed their long‑standing musical friendship into Trio Les Esprits, named after their shared aspiration for spiritual and interpretive depth in chamber music. They studied together in Vladimir Mendelssohn’s chamber‑music class at the Paris Conservatory, which laid the groundwork for a trio that would explore core repertoire from Beethoven, Brahms, Schubert, and Dvořák, as well as premier modern works. Their recordings with Sony and Mirare earned awards such as the Diapason d’Or, and they performed across Europe in venues including Wigmore Hall, Théâtre des Champs‑Élysées, Berlin Philharmonie, and festivals like Verbier and Lucerne. While the trio ceased full-time activity in 2019, their legacy of ensemble synergy continues to shape Laloum’s artistic identity—each member remains musically intertwined and occasionally reunites for special concert projects.
